Milestones Minutes April 2022

Curriculum Corner

April has arrived and that means Week of the Young Child! April 4th – 8th we will celebrate young children and provide fun activities all week long for them to enjoy. Our schedule is as follows:

Music Monday, April 4th

When children sing, dance, and listen to music, they develop their language and early literacy skills while being active and encouraging movement. Listen to and sing their favorite songs and have a fun dance party! Make musical instruments and go on parade!

Tasty Taco Tuesday, April 5th

This fun, food-themed day is about more than just cheese and crackers. We will be having tacos for lunch so turn your classroom into a Mexican fiesta! Read “Dragons Love Tacos” and listen to Latin music for a fabulous Fiesta!

Work Together Wednesday, April 6th

When children build together they explore math and science concepts and develop their social and early literacy skills. Children can use any building material—from a fort of branches on the playground to a block city in the classroom, or bridges for cars to use. Outdoor gross motor can also incorporate working together with three legged races, relay races and parachute play.

Artsy Thursday, April 7th

Think, problem solve, create! Children develop creativity, social skills and fine motor skills with open-ended art projects where they can make choices, use their imaginations, and create with their hands. On Artsy Thursday celebrate the joy and learning children experience when engaged in creative art making. Use any materials—from crayons to paint, clay to crafts!

Family Friday, April 8th

Family Friday! Engaging and celebrating families is at the heart of supporting our youngest learners. Family members are young children’s first and most important teachers. Have parents send in family photos so the children can share stories about their family.

Of course we can’t forget the Easter Bunny and his chick and duckling friends! He will be hopping through the school and celebrating with all of our classrooms. Each class will have their own Easter egg hunt so please keep an eye out for more information from your teacher as it gets closer to Thursday April 14th.

Earth Day is Friday, April 22nd so we will be learning how to keep our Earth clean and protect it for the future. We will start collecting recyclable materials starting April 4th and keep collecting them so our classes can build a 3D structure. This is a fun group activity and we always are excited to see what our classrooms decide to make.

April showers are headed our way so be on the lookout for umbrellas that can protect you from the rain. You know who else likes rain? Frogs! We will check out how a tadpole turns into a frog, learn about ponds and the animals that like to live there.

Also from mid-April to mid-May we will be going through our every three year re-evaluation of our Star Rating. We are all working very hard to get the massive amount of paperwork done and get the classroom environments ready for our inspection. Please be patient while we undergo this challenging process and we will let you know our results as soon as we know.

Parent Reminders

Calling all parents! Calling all parents! We are in need of recyclable materials! Please bring in any that you may have and you can drop them in our drop box in the lobby! Thank you!

As a reminder all students must be dropped off no later than 10 a.m. This allows them to come into the classroom before academic learning begins and prepare themselves to start their day with a smooth transition.

Pleases remember that pickup time is 5:30. We have had quite a few late pickups recently so please keep in mind that our staff also have families and after work obligations that they must attend to. You will be charged a dollar a minute for the amount of time you are past 5:30 p.m.

We are still requiring staff, parents and children to wash hands at our outdoor handwashing station before entering the center to help reduce the spread of germs. This rule applies at drop off and pick up.

Please make sure to check your email that is connected with Milestones and the Procare Engage App frequently as these are the way we communicate with parents on a regular basis.
